Appeal rejected for convicted Selena Killer

Categories: Headline

selena2The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed the conviction of a fan serving life in prison for the 1995 killing of Tejano singing star Selena.
The appeals court in Austin on Wednesday denied a petition challenging the conviction of Yolanda Saldivar, who formerly led the entertainer’s fan club.
Selena was shot and killed on March 31, 1995, at a Corpus Christi motel. Prosecutors say Selena had confronted Saldivar about embezzlement allegations.
A jury in Houston, where the trial was moved due to extensive publicity about the case, convicted Saldivar of murder.
Saldivar in June 2009 lost an appeal before the court in Austin because it was filed in the wrong county.

Yolanda should stay in prison for the rest of her life. Selena was a very inspiring young woman, whom I had the pleasure of meeting on several occasions. She performed in Hobbs, New Mexico many times. Yolanda had no right to take Selena away from the world. What has happened to Chris?

I am an art teacher, in a prison, and I shared Selena’s story with them today, the guys had many questions and comments to ask, the majority are Mexicano and very young, they related to her and were very sorry about her death and short life. Thank you, for keeping her story alive, she is still inspiring and touching our youth,
    Victoria
